Interlude: Split Ends
Once again, I'm breaking from the narrative for a second.
I'm a sucker for happy endings, so I went ahead and wrote one for this story. However, I think it more or less betrays the purpose of Adventures in Real Life to vomit up a standard Hollywood ending, so I will give you, the reader, the choice between a happy ending or a more cynical version.
Chapter 16 A and its corresponding Epilogue is the happy ending.
Chapter 16 B is the alternate ending.
Choose whichever you like to decide the fate of Saint Mark. If I ever write a sequel, one of these ending will be "proved" (i.e., continued from) while the other will be dismissed, but until then, both endings are "real."
